I am so happy that people are finally starting to acknowledge the true heritage of a large majority of 'latinos' in the U.S.A. My family is Peruvian and I never felt "Spanish" growing up. First of all, because my family's culture is primarily Indigenous (a nickname of our country is 'El Red'). And also because my other ancestry is mostly Italian on my dad's side and Syrian on my mom's side. I can speak Spanish but I've never felt a particular love or affinity for the language having grown up in the U.S.A. In fact, I have always felt 'related' to the despised Mexicans you see looking for work on the streets and also to Italian people. I just relate in a way I can't explain except to say it is probably genetic...maybe this sounds strange. Anyhow, I hope that America finally starts to acknowledge what we are!!! And I hope a lot of our brainwashed people stop thinking that 'Indio' is an insult and claiming to be Spaniards. I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks.
